With the number of available players at the wide receiver position dwindling, it’s a good thing that there are only four days left until kickoff. All of the injuries and the departure have opened a door for someone to step up this year. Number four on the countdown could be the guy.
That guy, of course, is Owasso, Oklahoma’s very own Keon Hatcher. Hatcher has good size at 6-2, 215 lb, and when you combine that with his 4.5 speed you get a nice weapon for quarterback Brandon Allen to utilize this season after an offseason that has seen three of them go down. If he comes through and steps it up, it won’t be the first time he’s been the "go to" guy.
As a senior at Owasso High, he caught 100 passes for 1,610 yards and 21 touchdowns. If Hatcher can come remotely close to that in his sophomore season with the Hogs, it’ll pick up some serious slack left in the receiving corps.
Hatcher caught 3 balls for 21 yards and a touchdown as a freshman last season when Cobi Hamilton got the majority of targets, but his opportunity to fill those has come. He caught five passes for 60 yards in the spring game. Will he answer the call?
On the other side of the ball, Kelvin Fisher Jr will also wear #4. Fisher is a sophomore from Gilbert, Arizona who has been listed as both a cornerback and a safety this off season. He reportedly made an interception in the closed scrimmage on August 17, but is not listed on the depth chart in the secondary for ULL. We could always see him on special teams, however. He redshirted in 2011 and saw his first game experience in the last couple of games in 2012.
See you Saturday.
