Arkansas Recruiting: Visitor List for Mississippi State - The Quest for a Running Back Continues

It's Arkansas' first home SEC game at night, and one of their top targets will be here for an official visit.

It seems like it shouldn't be particularly difficult for Arkansas to attract top running backs and offensive linemen, but in the current 2016 class, Arkansas has one lineman committed and no running backs. There will be plenty of activity between now and Signing Day, and there's no reason to think the Hogs won't pick up players at both positions by then, but it makes both position groups a clear focus for right now.

Especially at running back. With Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins most likely to enter the NFL Draft after this season, and especially with Rawleigh Williams' neck injury putting his future into some sort of question, the Razorbacks need to land top-level running backs in this recruiting class.

Arkansas hosted D'Vaughn Pennamon on an official visit the weekend of the UT-Martin game, and they're bringing in another one this weekend in Devwah Whaley.

Whaley is a composite 4-star prospect from Beaumont, Texas and has Arkansas among a final three that also includes Georgia and Texas. 247's composite ratings have him as the #4 running back in the country. A couple of analysts recently picked him to Arkansas in his 247 Crystal Ball. Obviously, he'd be a huge, huge get for Arkansas.

Here's a quick rundown of this weekend's visitors.

Official Visitors (i.e. the ones what get to go to the Catfish Hole)

RB Devwah Whaley - Beaumont, Texas

S Deon Edwards - Lake Minneola, Florida

FB Hayden Johnson - Columbia, Missouri

Unofficial Visitors

There's always a solid list of unofficial visitors, which includes many current commits. It also tends to fluctuate. We know of a few and there will likely be several more. If anything happens of note we'll certainly report it. Here's some:

Arkansas commit T.J. Hammonds and the Robinson crew will be in attendance it seems. The Senators have a playoff game in Northwest Arkansas Friday night so it should work out well for them. If you're in NWA and want to see them, they'll be at Pea Ridge. I'll be there cheering on my alma mater.

Hog commit Jordan Jones from Smackover is planning on making the trip.
