Virginia Cavaliers 3, Arkansas Razorbacks 0: Shut Down

The Hogs move to an elimination game against Bucknell Sunday afternoon at noon CST.

USA TODAY Sports

Nathan Kirby just completely dominated Arkansas Saturday night. That's really all there is to it.

Kirby limited the Hogs to just one hit in eight innings. The one hit was a double by Eric Fisher to lead off the fifth inning. He reached third when Tyler Spoon reached on an error, leaving the Hogs with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Unfortunately, Arkansas' next three batters lined out, struck out, and grounded out to end the threat with nobody scoring.

It was the only time the Razorbacks had a runner in scoring position all night.

Trey Killian only lasted 3.1 innings, but was lifted after developing a blister. All three of Virginia's runs came in those first few innings.  He gave up a big two-out two-run home run to Mike Papi in the first inning, and Papi scored the third run in the third inning after an RBI single by Kenny Towns.

And that's really about it. Kirby only walked two batters. Arkansas never threatened other than the fifth inning, and now the Hogs move on to play Bucknell in an elimination game at noon CST on Sunday. If the Razorbacks win, they'll play Virginia again Sunday night. Win that, and there's the last game on Monday.  But Arkansas does have to win all three to advance.
