Arkansas Football Countdown: 80 Days

It'll be hard to fill Chris Gragg's shoes.

Wesley Hitt

If you're looking through your spring roster, you probably won't see the number 80 next to any names. It's currently unfilled. It had been worn by Chris Gragg since 2008, and probably wasn't seen on the field enough in 2012 due to his injuries. Gragg will always have a special place in the hearts of Razorback fans after catching the ball 41 times in the 2011 season and playing through injuries in 2012 despite the season feeling like it was pretty much lost already.

What's not to like about Chris Gragg? A 6' 3" TE that some might call undersized, Gragg really made his mark with a 57 yard touchdown catch in the first three minutes of the 2010 game at Georgia, and while he only caught the ball 8 times that season, few Arkansas fans were worried about the tight end position when DJ Williams graduated and went to the NFL. Gragg had already shown potential as a RS Sophomore.

Gragg has been drafted by the Buffalo Bills. He has already been compared to Aaron Hernandez by former Arkansas Quarterback Ryan Mallett. If he can avoid the injuries that derailed his 2012 season, he should be a steady performer for the Bills. Buffalo Bills Head Coach Doug Marone already has plans for Gragg.

"I’m actually thinking about building upon what he was doing at Arkansas," said Marrone. "He’s got 4.5 speed and I think he can stretch the field vertically, which gives you some good matchups at times depending upon what’s on defense."

Good luck to Chris Gragg and the Buffalo Bills this season.

We've got 80 days to dream about which Arkansas TE might stun us all with a huge play like Gragg did in 2010.
