Brandon Mitchell and Keante Minor Transferring From Arkansas Football

The longtime backup quarterback and part time wide receiver is leaving for a better chance to play quarterback this fall.

The Arkansas football program announced Monday afternoon that quarterback Brandon Mitchell and wide receiver/running back Keonte Minor are transferring out of the program.

Mitchell is on track to graduate from Arkansas and according to Bret Bielema should be eligible to play this fall for another team. Possible destinations are not known at this time, but rest assured it will be a place where he could start at quarterback this fall.

Brandon Allen won the spot as first-team quarterback this spring, and Mitchell let it be known he was not interested in playing wide receiver again like he did last season. Mitchell was the second-team quarterback behind Tyler Wilson in 2011. Mitchell's touchdown pass against Auburn in 2012 on a trick play was one of the few things that went well for the Razorbacks in 2012.

While serving as backup qb, Mitchell, who was once committed to the LSU basketball team in high school, made a cameo on the Arkansas basketball team during the 2012 season and earned some time on SportsCenter for this dunk vs Ole Miss.

Now we can say without hesitation, barring injury or some other unforeseen circumstance, Brandon Allen will be the starting quarterback for Arkansas in 2013.

Keante Minor was recruited as a wide receiver but was moved to running back this spring and was never able to gain any traction at the position.

Arkansas also announced Austin Flynn and Defonta Lowe will not return to the team, but that was already well known if not official.
