Saturday is Significant

NCAA Football: Auburn at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Usually when the Razorbacks have a non-conference game against a non power five opponent, we feel a little relaxed. Getting a break from the SEC is necessary during the grind of conference play. The Razorbacks need to get healthy and play smart ahead of a bye next weekend.

This is a great opportunity for the team to recuperate and refocus ahead of SEC conference play against Mississippi State on November 6th. The University of Arkansas Pine Bluff will meet the Razorbacks Saturday at 11 AM in War Memorial Stadium. As the title states, this game is significant. It’s more than just a non-conference game and a break from the SEC.

Yes, Arkansas should beat UAPB based off the numbers on paper. Arkansas will likely beat UAPB, as any other SEC team should do. With this being said, the University of Arkansas has not played an in-state opponent since 1944. For reference, World War Two was still on-going.

Pine Bluff will be amped for this game and I have no doubt they will fight with everything they have against the Razorbacks. Many players on this team likely grew up as Razorback fans, this game will mean more to them. It’s just something about the “big dogs” in the Razorbacks coming to the state capital to face off against another Arkansas team.

I don’t think UAPB will be the only team amped either. There’s a chip on the shoulder of these Razorbacks. You have made it to the “elite” of our state. It’s really a fun combination and a unique matchup.

Yesterday Hayden and Hudson Henry were interviewed by media, when asked about returning to War Memorial Stadium Hudson mentioned how special it is to them. Both coming from Little Rock and playing high school football at Pulaski Academy offered both of them many opportunities to play in War Memorial Stadium.

I’m excited for the game and hopeful for a strong return to the victory column. The Razorbacks need to get another win and settle down for another SEC stretch. Look for more in-state opponents in the future including a game against Arkansas State in 2025.
