Tell me if this sounds familiar: Offense struggled for rhythm, but defense won the day, as the Hogs held off the opponents for a good win in a weird game.
That’s been the case in nearly every game as the 8-0(!) men’s basketball team has rolled to a great start. That’s 8-0 for the first time in 22 years, mind you. Musselman has instilled defense as a defining value, and the team has responded in kind. Even the guys who don’t usually get minutes are ready to defend, as a short cameo by Ethan Henderson resulted in him getting 3 blocks and 4 rebounds in very few minutes.
Elsewhere, Mason Jones returned to the lineup, chipping in a much needed 16 points. Isaiah Joe was 3-10 from deep and turned in 16 points as well. Jimmy Whitt Jr. the mid-range monster led the team with 17 points and no three pointers attempted. He truly is Daryl Morey’s nightmare.
Terry Taylor was the best Governor, with 20 points on 9-16 shooting. He was 1-5 from 3, as again, an Arkansas opponent struggled from deep. Sure, we may struggle to hit the three if Joe and Jones are off, but we sure make it tough on everyone else.
The Hogs winning ways have not gone unnoticed, as Arkansas announced today that 4 big games in the new year have sold out. Kentucky, TCU, Mississippi State, and Missouri are all going to be sold out contests, so good luck with your ticket scalping. As of this writing Mizzou lost to Charleston Southern, who they were favored to beat by 26 points. That has no bearing on the sellouts. Just thought you ought to know.
Up next, the Hogs get a road trip against a good Western Kentucky team led by a great prospect in Charles Bassey. That game will be played on December 7th at 6:30PM CT on CBS Sports Network. Hopefully the Muss Bus is ready for the test.
