For the first time in a long time, Arkansas disposed of their opponent in a calm, drama-free manner. The Hogs jumped on Texas State early, the defense didn’t let up and it was a win that teams like Arkansas need every now and then. With that in mind there isn’t a ton to take away from that game but some key individual performances from the Times Record look good.
Bret Bielema also shuffled around the offensive line against the Bobcats. After how much shuffling they did in the preseason this isn’t a huge surprise, but the change paid dividends as Frank Ragnow was named SEC Offensive Linemen of the Week. The line was improved once again and hit the magic numbers of 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing.
Now that some things have shaken out in the SEC, the bowl projections are getting higher and higher on the Hogs. Right now ESPN has Arkansas heading to the Outback Bowl, which has traditionally been one of the conference’s bigger games. Jerry Palm has also put Arkansas in the Outback bowl and it looks like he wants to give the Hogs that matchup against Michigan after all.
Jared Cornelius sat out the 42-3 win with some minor back issues but should be good to go against Texas A&M. From what the coaching staff had to say about the injury they didn’t sound too concerned, it sounded like he could have been good to go had this week’s opponent been bigger than the Bobcats.
The SEC released the TV schedule for October 1st and unfortunately the game against Alcorn State gets the early kickoff that it truthfully deserves. Since most of the conference is playing each other that weekend the Hogs have the lowest game on the totem pole that week.
Arkansas soccer is doing big things this season, after that early season upset of Duke, the Hogs got their first win over Florida in program history and Jeff Long celebrated accordingly. The Gators are heavy favorites to win the SEC and the Hogs are now 9-1 this season and will likely be in the Top-25 when the next poll comes out.
