Rohan Gaines & Carroll Washington Suspended For The Texas Bowl

Arkansas' secondary has taken a big hit at the beginning of bowl practices.

Bret Bielema announced Saturday starting junior safety Rohan Gaines and senior cornerback Carroll Washington have been suspended from the team for an unspecified violation of team rules and both will miss the Texas Bowl.

Freshman Joshua Liddell will likely start in Gaines' spot. Liddell played in 10 games this season and made 10 tackles including a pass breakup. This won't be the first time this season Liddell has had to play while Gaines was forced to sit out. Gaines was ejected from the LSU game for targeting and had to miss the first half of the Ole Miss game as a result.

The Hogs shut out both LSU and Ole Miss so Gaines' loss was not felt on the scoreboard, but it certainly puts the team in a bit of a bind. Gaines was fifth on the team in tackles this season with 59 and had five breakups. Of course, he also is responsible for what might be Arkansas' play of the year when he intercepted Bo Wallace in the end zone and ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown to help seal the game against Ole Miss.

Washington began the season with a lot of hype from the coaching staff but he was a backup cornerback by the end of the year. He played in all 12 games and made 17 tackles with one interception.

Since he was a senior, Washington's Razorback career is now over. Bielema said Gaines can return to the team in January if he "adheres to everything we ask him to do."
