Chad Spanberger hit .305 with 20 home runs (9th in the country) and 67 RBIs in 2017, but the Granite City, Illinois native was on a different planet in the 2017 SEC Tournament.
The 4th-seeded Hogs began by smashing Auburn 12-0, a game where Spanberger went yard three times...a solo shot, two-run in the 3rd inning, and a grand slam to put the icing on the cake. He became the first player to hit 3 home runs in an SEC Tournament game and his 7 runs batted in is still a record to this day.
Arkansas defeated Mississippi State 9-2 the following day to set up a semifinal contest with top-seeded Florida who would eventually go on to win the national championship.
Spanberger and the Hogs got on Brady Singer and the Gators early leading to an eventual 16-0 victory and run rule. He hit two homers in his first to at-bats, setting a record with 5 in the tournament overall.
Arkansas fell 4-2 in the SEC championship game to LSU but for his efferts, Spanberger was named to the All-SEC Tournament 1st team and the tournament MVP.
Spanberger was drafted in the 6th round (176th overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, and is currently playing for the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
