This week in our newest edition of Throwback Thursdays, we take a look back at the 2002 meeting down on the Plains.
October 12, 2002
Coming off a demoralizing six overtime loss to Tennessee the previous week in Neyland Stadium, Arkansas was looking to avoid an 0-3 SEC start as they traveled to Auburn.
Alabama had also gotten the best of the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, and with Auburn being nationally ranked at No. 24, it didn’t look good as they were having to go up against the Tigers’ Cadillac Williams.
But little did Auburn know what was about to hit them.
If you’ve followed the Razorbacks on message boards for any length of time, occasionally you will find a meme of ‘Fred Talley is still running’ whenever Auburn and Arkansas tangle in football.
This is the game that meme is referencing. Talley went nuts that day, rushing for 241 yards on 21 carries, including an 80-yard touchdown.
It was a part of a 426-yard effort as a team, with Matt Jones contributing a 70-yard touchdown scamper of his own late in the game to seal the deal.
Even though the Hogs lost the next week to Kentucky at home, they would win the next six games in a row to capture the SEC Western Division title.
Here is WARMACHINE2013’s highlight of the contest.
