Arkansas Razorback Internet Chatter: April 7, 2014 - UNLV Preview, Football Position Battles, Alex Collins Update

News, notes and interesting reads for Hog fans.

Mid-week baseball – Arkansas will play host to UNLV on Tuesday and Wednesday at Baum Stadium for a little mid-week action. Arkansas will do battle with the Rebels, who I didn't even know played baseball after a huge weekend series win over top ranked South Carolina. As Ryan put it in one of the postgame recaps, Chris Oliver WENT HAM, and so did Arkansas for most of the weekend. But looking forward now, here's everything you'll need to prepare for UNLV Tuesday and Wednesday.

Position battles? – It's spring time and that means its time to think of every hypothetical ever for the team you follow, and that often includes who you think will get the nod as a No. 1 and who will be the backup. Arkansas has several open position battles, most notably in the secondary and at linebacker. I think it's safe to say Brandon Allen has the starting job. Word on BA is that he looks different from last year physically and his intangibles have improved also, so it's tough to imagine seeing anyone else being QB1 (yes, I just went all Friday Night Lights on you).

Alex CollinsLet's just get this out of the way – Alex Collins is not transferring. He's not going anywhere, and Bret Bielema pretty much put an end to those rumors Saturday, even calling it "dumb" in his post scrimmage presser last Saturday. I saw Alex Collins on campus last week dapping up a group of sorority girls and he seemed super unhappy and ready to transfer. that's my sarcasm font.

Awards/Polls – In a weekend in which you take down the No. 1 team in the land twice in three tries, you had to have had someone GO HAM. And Arkansas did in Jalen Beeks and Chris Oliver, who earned SEC Pitchers of the Weekawards. Arkansas also cracked the top 25 in Perfect Game USA's latest poll after a 3-2 week and, of course, the series win over the Gamecocks. Can't get over how big that was for this team, especially in front of the home crowd.

Tweet of the Week

NSFW language at the beginning.

Here's a video of Arkansas native Justin Moore last night after winning New Artist of the Year at the ACMs. Moore is a small-town kid from South Arkansas (kind of like myself but much more talented) and was pretty fired up after winning his award last night. It's not really a Razorback related tweet/video except at the end when he gives a "Pig Sooie" to the camera, but it's great to see him be recognized for his music. He's a huge Hog fan and I'm sure he'll make some appearances in Fayetteville this fall (because he's tight with Bert and all).
