Arkansas' former quarterback signed an agreement to stay in Houston. The deal is for $7 million over the two years and $1.75 million guaranteed in the first year. It appears to be set up for him to try to earn a massive payday if/when he performs as well as he's hoping to this season. The Texans are also signing Brian Hoyer, who will compete with Mallett for the starting spot.
Who got a healthy pec for Ryan Mallett? Man, this is terrible. Mallett of course waited for three years behind Tom Brady for a chance to play in the NFL before being traded this year to Houston. He was victorious in his first start at Cleveland but at some point suffered an injury that led to a shaky performance in Houston yesterday. Now he's out for the year. Feel awful for him.
Remember how Ryan Mallett dropped to the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft because of "character concerns"? Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald describes the quarterback as a near model citizen who has bettered himself as well as the community, and that's the reason multiple teams have made trade inquiries for him.
According to the Boston Globe, there is a slightly stronger chance Mallett will be dealt rather than staying in New England. The article cites Cleveland as a favorite to land Mallett if the Browns can come up with the 1st or 2nd round pick the Patriots reportedly covet.
