As expected, the SEC undisputed champion, #1-ranked-for-pretty-much-the-entire-season Arkansas Razorbacks have been awarded the #1 overall seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
This is the first time since 1999, when national seeds were first awarded, that the Hogs have held the #1 position. Their previous high seed was #5, in 2018 and 2019.
National seeds, the top eight positions in the tournament, grant teams home-field advantage in the regionals and, if they advance, the super regionals. Which is to say, Arkansas will play at home in Baum-Walker Stadium the rest of the way until (please, please, for-the-love-of-God, please) Omaha, Nebraska.
In this year’s Fayetteville regional, the Hogs will be matched with Nebraska, Northeastern, and New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Hogs open Friday at 2pm against NJIT on ESPN3.
Whoever advances out of the Fayetteville regional will be paired with the winner of the Ruston regional. The teams playing in Ruston are Louisiana Tech, NC State, Alabama, and Rider.
Everything is front of the Hogs and it starts Friday afternoon!
