Arkansas 70 Missouri 64
What a win for this Arkansas team. It was unconventional and even to the style that Missouri likes to play.
Arkansas was without Jaylin Williams and will be until Sunday if the Hogs make it to the SEC Championship game. The Hogs really missed his presence defensively.
Tonight’s game was very sloppy. The two teams combined for 41 turnovers. Missouri controlled the game for the first 10 minutes and then Arkansas went on a run with JD Notae leading the charge. It was a back and forth game from then on. The SEC’ 6th Man of the Year scored 15 points in the first half and had 27 for the game. He also had 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
Justin Smith fouled out of the game, but he had 16 points on 6-12 shooting. He also added 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block.
Dru Smith had Moses Moody locked up. The SEC Freshman of the Year had just 5 points. Moody still played the most minutes of any player on the team because he impacts the game in so many other ways.
The surprise of the night was Ethan Henderson. Connor Vanover was struggling with Jeremiah Tilmon. Justin Smith was in foul trouble. Henderson was called on to finish the final 8 minutes of the 1st half. He played awesome. He had 2 blocks and got 2 huge dunks off of JD Notae passes. He helped charge the Hogs back into the game.
Arkansas held Missouri to 37% shooting in the 2nd half. What was most impressive about Arkansas’ defense was holding Tilmon to just 6 shot attempts. He really had more than that because he got to the Free throw line for 7 attempts, but the Hogs did a good job Tilmon. Sometimes the best defense is getting an opposing player into foul trouble. Tilmon had to sit a lot of the 2nd half before fouling out of the game.
This was a nice win for the Hogs. It wasn’t a great performance, but they found a way to win despite Missouri getting to play to their style.
The Hogs will need to be much more crisp going forward no matter who they draw. LSU or Ole Miss will be the next opponent tomorrow at around 2:30pm.
