Musselman Says College Coaching Is Overrated Compared To NBA

NCAA Basketball: Louisiana State at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Razorback Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Eric Musselman joined the Jim Rome Show today. He discussed a few topics but one of the most intriguing was the NBA and College coaching comparison.

“I think that NBA coaching is so underrated,” said Musselman. He went on to say “I think college coaching is overrated.”

The host, Jim Rome thought that was such an interesting take (so did I)that he wanted Musselman to elaborate.

“The in-game adjustments,” said Musselman. “When you have to go against Pat Riley, Phil Jackson or a Jeff Van Gundy. They each had their own reason for being great.”

He really went into detail about his time facing Van Gundy while he was in Memphis. Musselman knew Van Gundy was a such a good coach that Musselman’s teams couldn’t sustain runs.

“I couldn’t get more than a 4-0 or 6-0 run on him. I felt like he had 1,000 timeouts because every time we would go on a run (Van Gundy) would call a timeout and breakup your momentum,” said Musselman.
