JUCO PF Commits To Arkansas

NCAA Basketball: Missouri at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Akol Mawein has called the Hogs and is the first JUCO commitment for Eric Musselman during his tenure at Arkansas. Mawein is a 6-9 stretch 4 who can shoot the 3 and play with his back to the basket in the paint. He was born in South Sudan, but grew up in Australia.

Mawein was committed to newest Arkansas assistant coach, David Patrick, while he was still the head coach at UC-Riverside. He has ties to Arkansas. He played high school ball at Southwest Christian Academy in Little Rock and played AAU with Woodz Elite.

Mawein will be a sophomore at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. He averaged 13.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on 47.5 FG% and 32.8 3P%. In his last 14 games, he averaged 16.8 points and 5.7 rebounds with games of 28 points, 31 points, and 25 points.

Given how he finished the season last year, I expect him to make a big jump for Navarro this season. The hiring of David Patrick has already proven beneficial!
