Best Razorback Football Uniforms The Past 25 Years

It was a twitter poll runaway train from the get-go as the Darren McFadden era uniform won the poll by a landslide.

2005-2007 “McFadden Era” Uniform

You never go against a jersey worn by an all-time great even though there have been many great players to don the Arkansas cardinal and white but there has only been one era to wear that Razorback on the side of their helmet and wear ARKANSAS across their chest. Yeah, the current group of players wear the “Darren McFadden Throwback” during home games but it was popular during the “RUN-DMC” campaign.

Really, fans cannot go wrong with this pick. The jersey was worn by a former top five NFL Draft choice, 2-time Heisman runner-up, Walter Camp Award winner, two time Doak Walker Award winner, Jim Brown Trophy winner, three time first team all-SEC performer, 2 time conference offensive player of the year and two time all-american. What a list. This team won a total of 22 games in this uniform combo, an upset of eventual National Champion LSU and worn by three eventual first round NFL Draft picks. No wonder it is the favorite by Razorback Fans.

What I liked: This one is the ultimate classic uniform. Arkansas on the chest, the Razorback on the side of the helmet and on each shoulder pad but what the 2007 combination had that was more appealing to me than the other two before it was the two stripes down the sides of the pant leg that makes for such a sharp look.

2014 Throwback versus Alabama

In somewhat of surprising fashion the 1964 throwback worn by the 2014 team took second place in the poll. One thing that was memorable about the game was the crossing pattern by tight end A.J. Derby who caught the pass, found the sideline and turned the jets on for a touchdown. After a missed extra point that proved costly for the Hogs, the 13-7 lead was not enough as Alabama quarterback Blake Sims found DeAndrew White for a touchdown with 12:36 left remaining in the game to take the lead and win. As a fan that loss still hurts.

What I loved: This throwback uniform combination has my all-time favorite Razorback on the helmet. I have been told that it is the “slow Hog”, “Grandpa Hog”, or just downright an ugly Hog. Everyone has their preference but I am bias to that one. I like tradition.

2010 Sugar Bowl Season and 2011 Cotton Bowl Season

This uniform combination is fondly remembered by Razorback fans because of the success the Hogs had in them. The Razorbacks had a record of 21-5 when they wore these jerseys including a BCS bowl berth in the Sugar Bowl, a wild punt return for a touchdown by Joe Adams, two all-time great quarterbacks, a legion of wide receivers and some stand out defensive players like Jake Bequette, Trey Flowers, Chris Smith, Jerry Franklin, Tramain Thomas and more.

What I loved about this combination: The Razorback down the pant line was really unique and different than what other teams have worn. On the home uniforms, I really liked the 90-percent of red on it with a flavor of white on the sides of the jersey. They will be a classic look before long and one fans will be wanting to see back due to the success their team had in them.

1998 Reebok Uniform

This one will be remembered because it was the first taste of sustained success in the SEC. It was also Houston Nutt’s first year as head coach of the Razorbacks, too, which the team started the season 8-0. The next season, Arkansas returned some of the same players at the skill positions but did not reach the same success most thought they would in the preseason. They did go on to find revenge and defeat Tennessee at home with the same exact score as the year before. That win was a special one and Hog fans everywhere will remember that one for a very long time.

What I liked: It reminds me of simplicity. Not every uniform has to be flashy to be memorable. This one was the first jersey I ever wore (yes, I am a young pup).
