I’d like to preface this by saying that I’m an Arkansas fan, and I don’t try to hide that. There are emotions involved there, but I’m going to try to be measured in my response to this game. I hope y’all work with me while we process this together.
This is the worst I’ve felt in my time as an Arkansas football fan. This is worse than North Texas— they had a good QB. This is worse than ULM— we were in a transition year with Tyler Wilson as de facto coach. This is worse than The Citadel— that was another transition year moving into the most difficult conference in the country. This team has better players than all of those teams, and yet we’ve lost to one of the worst teams in the country. This is rock bottom.
I’m an incredibly patient fan. I buy into what new coaches say, and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I took last year in stride, and knew there would be growing pains this year. But for this team to come out and look so lost, so outclassed, and so absolutely disgusting is beyond the pale for me. I don’t think you fire Morris in the middle of the season (because who can you hire in the middle of the season?) but I also don’t think it’s unreasonable for fans to be asking those questions.
After last week, I thought we would come into this game with swagger and hustle that got us the win last week. We didn’t. We got pushed around, beat up, and run off the field by a bad team.
I don’t know where we go from here. My belief in Chad Morris has completely dissipated, and I’m at a point of apathy. That’s where programs die. Angry fans still stay engaged. Apathetic fans stop going, and I can’t blame a single soul who stops going this year. We deserve more, we’re capable of more, and I’m tired of losing like this.
I wish I had some positive words to say about this game, but I don’t. The onus is going to be on this staff to prove that they know what the hell they’re doing, because it sure doesn’t look like they do. Trey Knox and Mike Woods will be studs, and Kam Curl is for real. They can hold their heads high. As for the rest? Who knows?
We’ll have a more measured stats reaction from Adam Ford coming up this week, and I’m sure I’ll be able to wring some kind of content out of this, but I’d be lying if I said anything other than I’m absolutely devastated. Sure, it’s just a game, but it’s the Razorbacks. Arkansas is just a better state when the Hogs are winning.
I really hate that tonight ended this way. At least we can take solace in the fact that we’re all bummed together. See y’all soon.
