Cross Country got their season underway while both volleyball and soccer had some stiff tests this weekend. Soccer won theirs at home, while a top-5 team was too much for volleyball.

Cross Country

It was a short trip to Tulsa for both the men’s and women’s sides who both sent some of their younger athletes to the Hurricane Invitational. The men finished second and the women were third in a four team pool of the Hogs, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State. Sophomore Matt Young was second overall was one of four Hogs to finish in the top-10. On the women’s side Micah Huckabee, who finished fifth, and Alex Ritchey, ninth, were the two top-10 finishers.

Soccer

The team got a big 3-2 home win over the Baylor Bears in front of over 2,500 fans. The Bears went into this season ranked 15th in the coaches poll. Arkansas went into halftime with things tied 2-2 after Abbi Neece and Maddie Ricketts scored for the Hogs. In the 58th minute, Kayla McKeon scored the game winner for Arkansas. She was named SEC Offensive Player of the week for that performance.

Volleyball

It was a 2-1 weekend in their trip up north. They travelled to Minneapolis and got a straight set win over Georgia Southern on the first day. Saturday’s double header was a split for the Hogs. After beating North Dakota State three sets to one, they were outclassed by the hosts, the No. 3 Minnesota Golden Gophers.
