It was a mixed bag in both volleyball and soccer this past weekend. Both teams went 1-1 but feeling like each should have had perfect weekends. Cross country doesn’t get started until this upcoming week in Tulsa.
Soccer
The Hogs dominated their home opener against Nebraska-Omaha 2-0. Marissa Kinsey came off the bench and scored both goals. On the attack the whole night, Arkansas was able to out shoot Nebraska-Omaha 25-2. Their weekend road trip was dramatic but they dropped a disappointing 3-2 loss to McNeese State in double OT. After fighting back to tie the game, they allowed an 89th minute goal that seemed to doom them, but Taylor Malham scored in the final minute to force overtime. Both teams had chances in the extra periods but McNeese was able to grab the game winner.
Volleyball
Arkansas and Kansas had a home and home weekend, and the two sides split, each winning on the road. The first game in Barnhill Arena started out well for the Hogs, winning the first two sets by tight margins. The match swung back and forth, having 31 ties and 11 lead changes, but Kansas took the remaining three sets, and pulling away in the deciding fifth set.
The Hogs got some revenge a couple days later in Lawrence. They came storming out to a 25-13 first set win. They won the match on dramatic second and fourth set wins that went into extra points. Hailey Dirrigl led the Hogs in the win with 25 kills.
