Arkansas really hadn’t been tested in the winter of 1993 but a road trip over to Tulsa right before Christmas provided it. The Hogs got in early foul trouble and Corey Beck and Dwight Stewart fouled out well before the contest had been decided.
Tulsa, led by Tubby Smith, was ahead by 5 at halftime and it was tied at 84 at the end of regulation.
As the Hogs would need to do many times throughout the course of the season, they would lean on their best player, Corliss Williamson. Williamson finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds and his jump hook on the baseline with :03 left in overtime sealed the 93-91 victory.
Little did fans know that Tulsa would get a rematch much later down the road. It would not go well for Tulsa, as after a surprise run to the Sweet 16 they were bounced by the Hogs in a 103-84 win. Again it was Williamson leading the way with 21 and 9.
