It appears as if the Big Nasty has found a new gig in Orlando under newly hired head coach Frank Vogel.
Vogel, of course, was previously the head coach of the Indiana Pacers that gave the LeBron James Miami Heat teams all they wanted. Before that stint, he was an assistant with the 76ers and Celtics.
A 12-year NBA player and former Razorback standout, Williamson served as an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings the last three seasons and was retained on staff when legendary coach George Karl was let go.
Chad Forcier, the Spurs’ lead development coach, and David Adelman, who spent three seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, round out the hires by Vogel.
One aspect I’m personally looking forward to seeing is how Williamson works with bigs Serge Ibaka and Aaron Gordon going forward. Both guys are beyond talented in their own ways, and I’m fairly certain Big Nasty can teach them a thing or two.
Orlando finished 35-47 last season and fifth in the Southwest, missing the playoffs by nine games. The Magic, despite finishing under .500, made a 10-win improvement this past season under Scott Skiles.
