Although it remains the official policy of this blog that there's something distinctly distasteful about following recruiting *too* closely (obsessively tracking the whims of kids half our age we don't even know just seems a bit weird) it's hard not to get excited about National Signing Day. After all, the players who sign with Arkansas tomorrow will be the ones we'll all be discussing and, with luck, celebrating on this site before too long. And, from a competitive standpoint this is where the seeds of future successes are sown, so even if we don't obsess about recruiting too much (ok, we do a little bit) then we certainly recognize its importance.
Of course, nothing is set in stone until those faxes roll in tomorrow (faxes...so old school!), but so far this year's class seems to be a bit head-scratching. After reeling off a string of high-profile commitments in the spring and fall, Bobby Petrino and staff seem to be ending with a fizzle more than a bang. Although we certainly trust the judgement of those making the calls, it's a bit worrisome to see the Hogs getting beat by in-conference rivals for high-profile players who play positions of need.
For your reference, here's a list of the Razorbacks' 2011 commitments thus far. Who will sign tomorrow? Who will defect? Will there be any exciting last-minute surprises? As always, tell us what you think in the comments section.
