Musselman Recieves Raise and Extension Through 2026

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Arkansas at Baylor Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Hunter Yurachek got his man again as Arkansas Men’s Basketball Coach Eric Musselman has officially signed a contract extension to remain the Head Coach.

The new deal is worth $4 million a year through the 2026 season. Musselman can earn up to $800,000 in incentives.

Where things get interesting is the buyout….

If Eric Musselman were to leave for another job before the complete of the 2021-22 season, he would owe Arkansas $7.5 million.

The buyout then drops to 2 million through the 2023-24 season. Then to 1 million through the 2024-25 season. And finally to $750K through the final season of the contract.

Hunter Yurachek has been vocal that he is not a fan of huge buyouts. He trusts Musselman wants to be here. That’s a risky spot to be in, but I will trust Hunter Yurachek until he gives me a reason not to.

One interesting part of the contract is that if Musselman stays at Arkansas through April of 2024 then he would not owe a buyout if he accepted the head coaching job at his alma mater, San Diego.

Despite all of that, Arkansas is in good hands and the future is definitely bright. The transfer class is really good and there could be more additions. Arkansas will be very, very good.

Eric Musselman is 45-19 through 2 seasons which is the most ones in an Arkansas Head Coach’s first 2 years. He is the only Arkansas coach to take the Hogs to the Elite 8 in his first 2 years.

The Muss Bus rolls on!!
