Arkansas 85 Colgate 68

Arkansas is move on to the 2nd round!

What a game it was. The Hogs started out sluggish. Not much intensity. The close outs were late on the 3 point line and Colgate was doing what they do. The Raiders made 12 threes in today’s contest.

Arkansas was settling on offense and not getting into the teeth of the defense. Colgate found themselves with a 14 point lead in the 1st half.

I couldn’t believe what we were watching! The athleticism was having zero effect because the Hogs were going through the motion. Maybe it was nerves. Maybe it was fear. I don’t know.

Devo Davis scored a quick 4 points and forced a turnover that fired the Hogs up. After being down by 14, Arkansas score 17 straight points to end the half and lead by 3.

The first 10 minutes of the first half were back and forth. Both teams were able to score, but neither team was able to take control of the game.

With 7 minutes to go, Arkansas was ahead 63-60 and they held Colgate to just 9 points the rest of the game. Outstanding defense for big stretches of today’s game for Arkansas.

Colgate had only averaged 10 turnovers a game this year, but the Hogs were able to force 22 on the way to the win.

Justin Smith was incredible. Arkansas went with a 4 guard lineup for most of the game and Smith excelled against the unathletic big men of Colgate. He had 29 points, 13 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 assist.

Jalen Tate scored 15 points and added 7 rebounds with 6 assists.

Devo Davis sparked this team in the 1st half. He scored 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Arkansas will face 6 seed Texas Tech on Sunday. The game times will be released either late tonight or early tomorrow. This will be a great matchup of coaches.
