The Hogs have been in search for a consistent starter for much of the past two seasons. It’s been shouted here multiple times but there have been nine different starting quarterbacks since the 2017 season.
Austin Allen
Cole Kelley
Ty Storey
Connor Noland
Ben Hicks
Nick Starkel
John Stephen Jones
K.J. Jefferson
Jack Lindsey
That’s nine guys. Nine different quarterbacks have started a game. Now, we move on to our 10th different starter in Feleipe Franks as announced by the staff yesterday via the depth chart and press conference.
As soon as it was able to be asked about the quarterbacks, Pittman was asked how long he had known Franks would be the starting quarterback. As genuine as Pittman could be with an answer he would go on to say:
“I don’t know. He has been running with the one’s since he got here. We don’t really get in front of the team and announce who the starting quarterback is. Like we don’t announce who the starting center is.”
That is respectful. That is why this whole team loves Pittman and his staff because he’s genuine with them and they love him back. He is a players coach and will never play favorites. He wants to win football games and he needs his total team’s focus in order to win ball games.
Pittman would go on to say that Franks has been running with the ones and here is why.
“It’s been a while. It’s been quite a while. We knew he was going to be the guy who gives us the best chance to win,” said Pittman.
Honestly, that is all you can ask for. Feleipe Franks will start at quarterback this Saturday against a team that he knows very well in Georgia. During his career at Florida he went a stretch of 13-3 before an ankle injury sidelined him last season in a victory over Kentucky. Through his college football career, Franks has thrown for 4593 yards, 38 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions. Franks has also toted the rock for eight touchdowns as well.
