Arkansas will begin its’ 30th season in the SEC this fall. It is hard to believe that is has been that long. At Arkansas Fight, we are starting a series looking back at Arkansas basketball since entering the SEC. Each week, we will take a look at each SEC team and their history with Arkansas. We’ll dive in to the biggest games and outstanding performances. Next up is Texas A&M.

Arkansas has more wins 103 wins over Texas A&M. That is the 2nd most against any single opponent in school history. The Razorbacks have beaten TCU 105 times.

#11 Texas A&M 56 @ #14 Arkansas 60

Arkansas has played more games against Texas A&M than any other school, but there have only been 2 Top 25 matchups. Both games were in 1979. The teams split these games. U.S. Rees and Sidney Moncrief led the way with 16 points each as the Hogs held on to win.

February 17, 2018

#21 Texas A&M 75 @ Arkansas 94

Arkansas needed a resume building win with ranked A&M coming to town. The Hogs shot nearly 50% from the field, made 10 threes, and outrebounded the Aggies by 12. It was a dominating performance! Jaylen Barford, Daryl Macon, and Daniel Gafford combined for 59 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists.

February 22, 1977 – First Game Ranked In Top 10

#6 Arkansas 63 @ Texas A&M 62

The program’s first game ranked in the Top 10. The Hogs premiered at #6 as the headed to College Station. The Triplets scored 50 of the team’s 64 points. Arkansas shot an incredible 65.9% from the field, but had 23 turnovers which kept A&M in game. Arkansas would sneak out with a 1 point win.

January 26, 1982

#12 Arkansas 64 @ Texas A&M 63

Darrell Walker was the hero for this game in College Station. He was the only Razorback to score in double figures. He had 23 points and 8 rebounds. Carey Kelly had 9 points and 8 rebounds. Walker made a deep jumper with 2 seconds left to stun the Aggies.

Outstanding Performances

Martin Terry - January 22, 1972

Martin Terry is known as one of the greatest scorers in school history. He dominated A&M in 1972 with 46 points while making 22-24 from the free throw line.

Roosevelt Wallace – March 8, 1991

Arkansas had 5 different players in double figures on their way to beat the Aggie by 47 in the Southwest Conference Tournament. Roosevelt Wallace off the bench had 14 points and an incredible 15 rebounds.

Lenzie Howell – February 21, 1990

There weren’t many games during the early 90s where either Lee Mayberry or Todd Day weren’t the leading scorers for the Razorbacks, but this was one of them. Lenzie Howell had 32 points and 10 rebounds.
