Redshirt junior defensive back Jarques McClellion announced Thursday afternoon that he will to opt out of the 2020 season amid the novel coronavirus. McClellion is the third Razorback to opt out for the 2020 season. He joins wide reciever Shamar Nash and offensive lineman Chibueze Nwanna who have also opted out.

McClellion cited his reasons for opting out with a tweet:

“AFTER, MUCH THOUGHT AND CONSIDERATION MY FAMILY AND I HAVE DECIDED DUE TO GROWING HEALTH CONCERNS. IT IS BEST FOR ME TO OPT OUT OF THE 2020 FOOTBALL SEASON. I’VE BEEN quarantine twice since returning June 1st and after watching my momma fight for her lift on the ventilator last year during the birth of my little sister. This has really hit home for me and my family being quarantined twice. I wish my university all the best this football season”

After missing last week’s matchup with Georgia, McClellion was expected to rejoin the team this week. If he was added, the depth and experience would have been welcome as the Hogs prepare for the Mike Leach “Air Raid” offense. As a redshirt sophomore, McClellion recorded 34 tackles, four pass breakups and one interception in the 2019 season.
