Arkansas’ NIT run and season has come to a close with a 63-61 loss to Indiana. The Hoosiers avenged an earlier loss in the year as the two each won a close game at home against the other. The Hogs finished the season at 18-16.
The Hogs got off to a quick start in this one. Back to back 3’s from Desi Sills and Mason Jones gave the Hogs an early 14-6 lead. However the Hoosiers got their footing and quickly pulled it back to a 16-15 score.
Arkansas then went ice cold in the final 6 minutes of the half and went into the half down 28-30. Sills led the way in scoring, getting to double figures in the first half.
Like much of the season, there were hot spells and periods of the offense stagnating. The Hogs pulled up to a 43-37 lead and then a 10-0 Hoosiers run with three Arkansas turnovers gave them a lead. The two went back and forth and in the last two minutes the Hogs had chances to close the gap. Like the rest of the season, some missed free throws and a turnover caused the Hogs to come up short.
Now next season the majority of the team is slated to return. Arkansas’ NIT experience gave the players and fans a chance to experience a couple of road games without Daniel Gafford and they split those two against some solid and well known programs.
