Not to be accused of being a downer blog, I am pleased to bring you glad tidings! Our soccer team is still pretty dang good, and is on pace to end up having some national considerations before the season is over.
When last we met the soccer team, they were due to face Ole Miss at home. They quickly dispatched them with a 3-0 victory that very well could have had more goals, as the team had 16 total shots.
They followed that win up with a 4-0 battering of LSU in Baton Rouge that saw three goals come from set pieces in an amazing team performance. Offense and defense shone once again as the Razorbacks out-shot the Bayou Bengals 14-4, with only one of LSU’s shots on target.
Their most recent victory came after a comprehensive 6-1 demolition of Mississippi State. Anna Podojil found the net three times for a sensational hat trick. That performance places her tied for first in the league with 10 goals. All told, she’s been involved with 24 goals, recording at least one point in 12 of Arkansas’ 14 matches. She was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. She’s also only a freshman(!).
This amazing series of games has resulted in the Razorbacks nipping at the heels of first place South Carolina in the conference. They’ve also climbed to number 6 in the country. With the team’s only loss being to South Carolina, and by a slim 1-0 margin at that, there’s no telling how far this team can go.
It’s an amazing testament to the work Coach Colby Hale and the team have put into instilling a winning culture and attitude. It starts from the moment you get on campus too. Freshman forward Jordan Stack told us on the podcast that a sense of fight and pride is emphasized in every team meeting and every game. You can listen to that interview here, and you absolutely should.
All told, things are going great in the world of Razorback Soccer, so if you’re looking for a winner, I’m not sure how much better you can do than a team with a 11-2-1 record. They’ll be headed to College Station to take on a tough number 17 Texas A&M. That game will start at 7:30pm CT, and will presumably be aired on the SEC Network’s streaming platform. Do yourselves a favor and check them out!
