Arkansas Loses Game 2 In Most Arkansas Way Imaginable

They were one strike away.

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Arkansas vs Oregon State Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Arkansas had the lead in the top of the ninth, Matt Cronin was dealing, and got a pop fly in foul territory that should have ended the game and won Arkansas’ first College World Series title.

Should have.

The ball fell between three Arkansas fielders and Oregon State had life again, and man did they take advantage. Cadyn Grenier tied the game with a single to left field. Then a Trevor Lamach home run into the right field bullpen to give the Beavers a 5-3 lead. Arkansas couldn’t get the runs they needed in the bottom of the ninth and now have to play in a winner take all game three.

Now it definitely is easy to blame everything on the missed pop up. It sucks, to be so close and not get it definitely sucks. But Arkansas definitely did not play their best game. They stranded eight on the base paths and once again were very strikeout happy.

It doesn’t matter at this point how it happened, but it happened. And it sucks a lot. But Arkansas still has a chance tomorrow. And if they take advantage they can make everyone forget about tonight.
