SEC Baseball Recap: Home Sweep Home

New, 1 comment

The Hogs are back on track.

Isn’t some home cooking great? After two road series against elite teams, the Hogs found themselves back at Baum and took advantage. They also got some pretty good results elsewhere in the conference as well.

Arkansas Sweeps Auburn

Arkansas got clutch performances from Blaine Knight, Matt Cronin, and Jake Reindl on the mound. After a pitcher’s duel on Friday and a blowout Saturday, the Hogs got a walk off from Heston Kjerstad.

That sweep combined with the results elsewhere means Arkansas has a game lead in the west, and is one behind Florida for the overall SEC lead.

Vanderbilt Wins Series vs. Georgia

Georgia has been the surprise of the SEC thus far, but Vandy came back from a series opening loss to win the series. After two close games the Commodore offense broke through, winning 8-3.

Texas A&M Wins Series vs. LSU

The Aggies have come oh so close to getting series wins early on and now they finally got one. George Janca’s two run triple and Mitchell Kilkenny’s complete game was enough to get them over the line. It’s another missed chance for the Tigers to jump into the top group in the conference.

Florida Wins Series at Tennessee

This series showed that Tennessee is getting better but still has a ways to go. They had a Sunday double header and forced extras in the first one before getting a seven inning win. That came on the heels of a 22-6 beat down. The talent of Florida and the resiliency of Tennessee was on display this weekend, and talent ultimately won out.

Miss State Wins Series vs. Ole Miss

Easily the biggest surprise of the weekend. The Bulldogs Sunday walk off gave Ole Miss their first series loss of the year.

Ole Miss has dropped behind the Hogs in the standings, while Miss State stays within striking distance of the SEC Tournament.

Kentucky Wins Series vs. South Carolina

After their rough start to SEC play the Wildcats are turning things back around. The winner in each game this weekend hit double digit runs. And while there wasn’t a ton of drama in this series (10-5 was the closest score), it was an important one for Kentucky’s regional host chances.

Alabama Wins Series at Missouri

After winning a series one the road, Mizzou went back home and dropped one. After a split double header, the Tide won the series finale and came out on top of a very low scoring series. Mizzou only got one run in each game this weekend. The results put both teams pretty firmly in the middle of the pack in the SEC.
