Women’s Basketball

They had a break in what’s been a pretty challenging non conference slate this week, going 2-0 against Tennessee Tech and Abilene Christian. The Hogs beat Tennessee Tech 65-42 with an excellent defensive effort. The Hogs only allowed four points in the first quarter and cruised from there on. Chelsea Dungee led the team in scoring with 28 points on 12/18 shooting.

Then they travelled to beat Abilene Christian on the road 80-68. The game was close throughout the first three quarters, before the Hogs outscored Abilene 23-13 in the fourth to pull away. They got double figures in that one from Alexis Tolefree, who had 21 points, and Malica Monk who put in 18 points and four assists. Those wins puts the Hogs at 7-2 overall as they head to the final stretch of non conference games with some more winnable games upcoming.

The season hasn’t started for them but the preseason poll is out and the Hogs are 12th in the nation. The real headliner for them is their brutal schedule, they’re the only team in the nation hosting four of the top six teams in the country. They’ll be hosting No 2. Oklahoma, No. 3 Florida, No. 4 LSU, and No. 6 Alabama at Barnhill Arena this year. The Hogs are in the always tough SEC, which has seven teams ranked in the top-15 so far.
