SEC Basketball Weekend Watch Guide: Early Season Tournaments Begin

NCAA Basketball: Arkansas at Alabama Marvin Gentry-USA TODAY Sports

It’s never too early to scout for the upcoming season in college basketball, or maybe college football has just broken you this year and you need to turn to something else, we get it. There’s plenty of SEC basketball this weekend to keep your mind off the gridiron. And we know hoops can be a bit more difficult to track compared to football, instead of getting everything at once on Saturday, games could be happening anytime. Instead of searching through the channel guide, here’s all the games you’ll want to tune into this weekend.

Game of the Day: Ole Miss vs. Butler

7:00 p.m. CT | FS2

It’s not the most enticing matchup but Friday doesn’t have the greatest slate of games. But it is another shot to see Kemar Baldwin, who dropped 24 on the Hogs in the NCAA Tournament last year.

Other Games of Note:

Alabama vs. Ball State (Charleston Classic) | 12:30 p.m. CT | ESPNU/WatchESPN

Long Beach State vs. Mississippi State | 8 p.m. CT | SEC Network/WatchESPN

Louisiana Tech vs. LSU | 7 p.m. CT | SECN+/WatchESPN

To borrow from Jason Kirk’s Watchability Rankings; It’s basketball:

Missouri vs. Kennesaw State (Paradise Jam) | 2 p.m. CT

Sam Houston State vs. Georgia | 6 p.m. CT | SECN+/WatchESPN

Alcorn State vs. Vanderbilt | 7 p.m. CT | SECN+/WatchESPN

Game of the Day: South Carolina vs. Providence

1:30 p.m. CT | WatchESPN

It’s the game of the day because it’s the only game of the day. The SEC doesn’t want to infringe on one of the last college football Saturdays remaining. Still, it’s a good early test to judge how good Frank Martin’s team is.

Game of the Day: Arkansas vs. Indiana (duh)

2:30 p.m. CT | ESPN/WatchESPN

You we’re already set to watch this one, but yes it’s the best game that the SEC has this weekend. You get two potential lottery picks in Daniel Gafford and Romeo Langford. Arkansas’ defense has looked solid in their first two games but this could by far be the best offense they face outside of the SEC’s elite teams.

Other Notable Games:

Minnesota vs. Texas A&M (Vancouver Showcase) | 9:30 p.m. CT | ESPN2/WatchESPN

South Carolina vs. George Washington OR Michigan (Naismith Tipoff) | TBD (depends on bracket)

Missouri vs. Old Dominion OR Oregon State (Paradise Jam) | TBD (depends on bracket)

Alabama vs. Appalachian State OR Wichita State (Charleston Classic) | TBD (depends on bracket)

It’s Basketball:

VMI vs. Kentucky | 5 p.m. | SEC Network/WatchESPN
