Weekend Update: Football Is Back and Unfortunately So Are Injuries

Your weekend and round up of Razorback Football and More!

NCAA Football: Florida A&M at Arkansas Nelson Chenault-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to the weekend update. Your quick hitting one stop for your Razorback and NCAA needs.

Arkansas started the 2017 season with a 49-7 win over Florida A&M. If you want to impress all your friends and be the smartest guy at your TCU tailgate party, check out our Box Score Breakdown. Offensively, the Hogs moved back more towards 2015 than 2016. With more success on first down and less explosiveness. This was probably due to design with TCU coming up. Because Arkansas was so poor on first down, the offense dialed up some simple first down plays to create longer drives.

Unfortunately it wasn’t all good news for the Hogs. Ryan Pulley is out for the season with a pectoral injury. Unfortunately the injury news was bad and too common for this week.

Some more disappointing news. Arlando Cook was arrested on Dickson Street for the second time as a Razorback. Cook is charged with multiple charges, including assault, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct. I’d expect Cook to miss some games at the start of the upcoming season.

Some recruiting news for football. Jerome Carvin is going to take an official visit to Fayetteville sometime in the fall. Carvin is a highly recruited offensive lineman from Tennessee and will visit the Hogs along with Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Alabama. Carvin is already listed as 6’4” and 325 lbs, so he would be a big get, literally and figuratively.

TCU is coming to Fayetteville this weekend. If you want to know more about the Frogs, check out the season preview from our friends at Frogs O’ War. A lot of familiar faces will be back for the Horned Frogs, including Kenny Hill and KaVonte Turpin.

Elsewhere in the SEC, it was a pretty good week! South Carolina beat NC State, LSU shut out BYU, and T̶e̶x̶a̶s̶ ̶A̶&̶M̶ ̶r̶o̶c̶k̶e̶d̶ ̶U̶C̶L̶A̶ whoops. The biggest was Alabama getting the best of Florida State in the GREATEST OPENER OF ALL TIME SPONSORED BY TAYLOR SWIFT. Unfortunately they lost two starting linebackers for the season due to injury. That combined with the injury to Deondre Francois made for a sad week one in terms of injuries.
