June has been an overall positive note for Razorback recruiting. Because of scholarship math, this class might not have the same number of commits, so getting the right fit is even more important. Not surprisingly, its a very Texas and Arkansas heavy list so far. Those who are big believers in Arkansas needing to get the in-state stars will be happy. Arkansas has 3 of the top 6 committed already and is still in play with the other three.
Class of 2018 Commits
- Bumper Pool; 4-star LB; Lucas, TX
- BJ Hanspard; 4-star ATH; DeSoto, TX
- Connor Noland; 4-star QB; Greenwood, AR
- Emmit Gooden (JUCO); 3-star DT; Independence, KS
- Tanner McCalister; 3-star CB; Rockwall, TX
- Sean Michael Flanagan; 3-star ATH; Charleston, AR
- Jeremy Gibson; 3-star RB; Reserve, LA
- Isaiah Nichols; 3-star DE; Springdale, AR
- Noah Gatlin; 3-star OT; Jonesboro, AR
If you haven’t already heard the news, TE Luke Ford re-opened his recruiting earlier in the month. The Hogs are still an option, but after visiting Alabama they sound like the leader for Ford now. While possibly losing him is a blow, Arkansas seems to have regained some positive momentum after his recommitment.
Gooden, Nichols, and Gatlin all committed after Ford’s departure, and really makes for a well-rounded class so far. There are no glaring holes so far, most position groups have at least one player coming to Fayetteville.
It’s also foolish to take any stock in recruiting rankings this early in the process, but we’re going to look at the recruiting rankings this early in the process. Arkansas is only 40th in the country but 7th in the SEC according to 247Sports. If you’re worried about the current ranking, don’t be. Rankings will surely change, as it seems unlikely Kentucky and Kansas continue to out recruit the traditional powerhouses.
So what’s next in recruiting? Glad you asked. Nike’s major event, “The Opening” will have some Razorback targets, including Ford.
