Did the defense improve after a rough tough scrimmage?

After a rough first scrimmage, the Razorback defense wanted to come out and have a better second scrimmage this weekend. There were still some limitations on tackling, but performed much better. The defense added some blitzes and got some pressure on the quarterback. The coaching staff mentioned a lot of different guys who are getting more comfortable in their new roles.

Some more unofficial stats on the scrimmage here. In addition to getting more pressure on the quarterback, they were able to cut down on big plays in the running game. Devwah Whaley pulled off a big run early but after that they settled down and had a much better performance.

Arkansas baseball got a sweep this weekend over a struggling Georgia team. While they got the job done and the offense was its usual self. The defense has started to become a concern. Over the last two SEC series the Hogs have had seven errors. Much like the LSU series, a defensive implosion in the top of the 9th almost cost them the middle game of the series. Arkansas still has decent defensive numbers overall, but it’s something worth looking at going down the stretch.

Because Georgia is at the bottom of the SEC totem pole, Arkansas didn’t see much movement in the polls. They jumped up to 14th in the coaches poll. You can check out the other polls here. The polls have them between 10th and 16th, while the RPI is up to 18, and that could be big for Arkansas’ hosting chances.

It was a big weekend for Luke Bonfield, who won SEC Player of the Week for his performance this weekend. Bonfield is coming around off a slow start to SEC play and is adding some depth to the Razorback lineup. He’s now got 14 RBI’s in 15 conference games after his two home runs this weekend.
