College Football Picks and Predictions: Week 5 - Other Games Can Entertain Us

Your weekly primer of semi-researched, crackpot picks!

Boise State v Washington Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images

This isn’t exactly the biggest week in the SEC. While there is some upset potential, it could be sort of a snoozer weekend across the conference. However, there are a few high profile games this weekend elsewhere, including one involving our formerly beloved former coach.

*All times Central Time*

Friday Night:

#7 Stanford @ #10 Washington 8 PM

Stanford was shaky last week in a last second win, and Washington has been quietly rolling along. The nod is going to the home team, which has a pretty talented defense, but I’m not picking against Stanford until they lose.

Spread: Washington -3

Stanford 23 Washington 17

Saturday Morning:

Alcorn State @ #20 Arkansas 11 AM

Let’s just hope the Hogs aren’t too hungover to win this cupcake game. Let’s hope players stay healthy, and Ty Storey is playing in the second half. I’m also looking forward to seeing what Whaley can do with a wide-open playbook.

Spread: N/A

Arkansas 52 Alcorn State 6

#22 Texas @ Oklahoma State 11 AM

I really thought the Pokes were going to put Baylor in their place but they failed me. This has been a very strange season of performances for them, all the while Texas has been putting together their own oddball season of upsets and losses. Points will be scored, I just think Texas will score a few more of them.

Spread: OkState -3

Texas 38 OkState 33

#14 Miami @ Georgia Tech 11 AM

Mark Richt, in his first game against GT in Orange and Green instead of Red and Black. GT has been playing solid ball, and Miami is due for the other shoe to drop, but Richt has this in the bag.

Spread: Miami -6.5

Miami 30 GT 21

#23 Florida @ Vanderbilt 11 AM

We saw what Florida did to UK, let’s not pretend this will be any different.

Spread: Florida -10

Florida 35 Vanderbilt 16

Afternoon:

#4 Michigan V #8 Wisconsin 2:30 PM

Easily the best game in this timeslot. Michigan has proven to be a force, and Wiscy is starting to make me a believer. We will know A LOT about the state of Big10 ball after this game.

Spread: Michigan -10.5

Michigan 34 Wisconsin 27

#11 Tennessee @ #25 Georgia 2:30 PM

Tennessee was scary in the second half against the Gators, and UGA is trending down after a brutal loss to Ole Miss. I could see UGA taking this game, especially since it’s in Sanford Stadium. Feels like the Vols are a little too big for their britches. I’m picking the home DAWG!

Spread: Tennessee -3

Tennessee 24 UGA 28

Air Force vs Navy 2:30 PM

I love service academy games! Both teams are currently undefeated and are playing for their chance at the Commander and Chief trophy. These games are always fun to watch. Go Falcons!

Spread: AF -8

AF 35 Navy 30

#9 Texas A&M @ South Carolina 3 PM

Wouldn’t it be so satisfying to see TAMU lose this game and tumble out of the top 10? I don’t think there is a snowballs chance in hell, but stranger things have happened this season.

Spread: TAMU -14

TAMU 38 SCAR 14

Primetime:

#1 Alabama vs Kentucky 6PM

Poor wildcats.

Spread: Bama -34.5

Alabama 49 Kentucky 10

LSU vs Missouri 6:30 PM

LSU doesn’t lose games in Death Valley very often, even to teams that have been hotter than expected. Yes, Les is gone, but the team is still capable of winning the games they should win… I think.

Spread: LSU -13.5

LSU 27 Missouri 17

#3 Louisville @ #5 Clemson 7 PM

This game feels like the Louisville-FSU game to me. The spread is tiny, and Clemson has been really good, but I’m not picking against Louisville until the wheels come off.

Spread: Louisville -2

Louisville 42 Clemson 25

BONUS: LSU coach search

Who do you think is most likely to be LSU’s new HC? Bobby Petrino, Jimbo Fisher, or Tom Herman? Yes, those are just some of the names I’ve seen associated with this position which proves college football is as crazy as we all thought it was.
