After the excitement that led up to playing Texas A&M in JerryWorld, playing Alcorn State in War Memorial Stadium just doesn’t have that same buzz. It’s still Arkansas football though and the Hogs will get a chance to right some of the wrongs before Alabama comes to town. There really isn’t much interest in match ups when playing an FCS team, but here is a primer to get you focused on what to look for.
Arkansas has the early kickoff so if you’re not heading out to the game there will be the rest of the day to focus on the rest of the SEC. Here is ESPN’s notes on what to look out for in the conference this weekend, which is headlined by Tennessee playing against Georgia in a game that could decide the SEC East early.
People just can’t get enough about the toughness Austin Allen showed last Saturday. At the end of the season when hog fans look back, the game might be a big turning point in the offense’s development. Allen had one of those lead by example games and outside of Alabama, probably wont face a defense a fast and nasty as the Aggies.
Defensively, the Razorbacks are looking to patch some holes, particularly in the running game. Arkansas got gashed many times on the run, which is pretty uncharacteristic of a Robb Smith defense. The majority of those yards came on a small amount of breakdowns that resulted in huge plays. So priority number one for them against Alcorn State will be making sure that run defense is tightened up.
One more thing of note is the LSU game is now officially a sell out. This is Arkansas’ third sellout of the year including Texas State and Alabama. There is plenty of time to add Florida and Ole Miss to the list as well.
