Chalk up another entry into Arkansas’ recent history of doomed linebacker recruiting. Bret Bielema announced at his preseason camp-opening press conference that redshirt freshman Derrick Graham will be joining the small group of Hogs transferring out of the program.
Graham was recruited as a linebacker out of Florida in the 2015 recruiting class and was considered a good, promising pickup for the Razorbacks. Unfortunately, it appears he wasn’t able to develop as expected, so he’s joining Denzell Evans, Eric Hawkins, and Willie Sykes transferring out.
Arkansas signed four linebackers in the 2016 class and even recruited a couple of walkons in addition to moving Kendrick Jackson back to his original position after playing fullback as a true freshman, so there are options for those spots on the depth chart to join Brooks Ellis and Dre Greenlaw, but they are young and inexperienced options.
More roster updates from the press conference:
Defensive end Tevin Beanum is not on the roster as of right now. Bielema said he’s dealing with a personal situation and could return soon.
One of those true freshmen linebackers, Giovanni LaFrance, is also not on the 105-man roster, but Bielema revealed on twitter after the press conference that he is suffering from a hand injury.
