Arkansas Razorbacks Internet Chatter: March 17, 2014 - NIT Notes, Spring Football Update

News, notes and interesting reads for Hog fans.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Like its 1979 – Arkansas and the Indiana State Sycamores will be facing off for the first time since a decade and a half before I existed, this time in the NIT. The two met for the first time back in the NCAA Tournament in 1979, featuring future NBA ballers Sidney Moncrief and some dude named Larry Bird. But this year, Indiana State failed to make the field of 68 after falling to undefeated Wichita State in the Missouri Valley Conference title game. Arkansas knew it was NIT bound once it was bounced in the SEC Tournament. But the NIT is better than no postseason, I guess. Here are some other NIT notes.

Spring football – I think everyone in the world except for myself is ready for football to begin. I don't want it to start because that means basketball season is coming to a close. But nonetheless, Arkansas began spring practice indoors Sunday thanks to the wonderful wintry mix we got early that morning. Bielema says his players are chomping at the bit to get back on the field and playing again. The story also mentions who might be Brandon Allen's biggest threat to the starting QB job.

Bracket Challenge – Everyone, if you have a pulse, has at least looked at the NCAA Tournament bracket and likely filled one out. But what fun is filling out a bracket if you don't compete against your friends or co-workers and ultimately decide who the alpha male is? Team Speed Kills is offering an alternative to the perfect billion dollar bracket challenge, because you won't pick the perfect bracket. Plus, you can win a cool TSK t-shirt if you win!

Track and Field – Well, about the only consistent program on the U of A campus was back at it over the weekend contending for a national title at the men's indoor NCAA Championships in Albuquerque. The Hogs came in second place nationally, just eight points behind champion Oregon.
