Arkansas Wins Baseball Series Against Alabama 2-1

The Diamond Hogs won the first two games by a total score of 9-1 to clinch the series, but couldn't keep it going on Saturday to claim the sweep. It's still the 3rd straight SEC series victory for the Hogs, their second straight on the road, leading up to the big showdown with LSU at Baum next weekend.

The series started on Thursday to accommodate ESPN, who televised Thursday's victory on ESPNU. The Diamond Hogs won the game despite only bringing in three runs on 12 hits. Five different Razorback pitchers combined to only allow Alabama a single run with Jalen Beeks getting credit for the win.

The second game on Friday belonged to Ryne Stanek. He shut out the Tide through eight innings and only allowed four hits and the Hogs cruised to a 6-0 victory.

Here's the Sunday recap from UA:

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Brett Booth homered and drove in two runs, while Alabama starter Spencer Turnbull tossed seven scoreless innings as the Crimson Tide defeated No. 12 Arkansas, 5-0, in the series finale on Saturday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Even with the loss on Saturday, the Razorbacks won two of three games in the weekend series, just the Razorbacks’ third series win over the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. Arkansas drops to 23-9 overall and 8-4 in Southeastern Conference play, while Alabama improves to 20-13, 8-4 in league play.

Turnbull (4-1) earned the win on the mound for the Crimson Tide. Turnbull tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just five hits and striking out four.

Arkansas starting pitcher Randall Fant (2-1) took his first loss of the season. Fant gave up two runs on five hits and had a strikeout in three innings.

Joe Serrano had a pair of hits to lead Arkansas at the plate. Brian Anderson, Willie Schwanke and Tyler Spoon each added one hit in the loss.

Georgie Salem had a game-high three hits and scored a pair of runs for the Crimson Tide. Booth hit his third homer of the season and went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Andrew Miller and Mikey White each had two hits for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama struck first in the bottom of the second when Booth led off the inning with a solo homer over the wall in left field to put the Crimson Tide in front 1-0.

Alabama extended the lead to 2-0 in the home half of the third. With runners on second and third and two out, Booth lined a single to center field to score Salem. Ben Moore attempted to score from second on the play, but Jacob Morris threw him out at the plate to end the inning.

The Crimson Tide doubled the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. After Miller led off the inning with a double, Salem laid down a bunt single up the third base line. Wise attempted to throw Salem out at first, but no one was covering the bag and the throw went down the right field line, allowing Miller to score on the error. The Crimson Tide added another run later in the inning on a bases loaded RBI single by Kyle Overstreet.

Alabama closed the scoring with a run in the top of the seventh. With runners on the corners and one out, Alabama executed a double steal with Austen Smith stealing second and Booth stealing home after the throw down to second by Wise.

Arkansas struggled to get anything going on offensively against the Alabama pitching staff. The Razorbacks put two runners on base in the sixth inning, but were unable to score. Arkansas only got base runner on over the final three innings as the Crimson Tide won the series finale, 6-0.
