Name: Drew Morgan
Position: WR/ATH
Height: 6-0
Weight: 180
Hometown/High School: Greenwood, Arkansas/Greenwood High School
Morgan pretty much did it all for the Bulldogs in his three year varsity career. In that period, he scored 70 total touchdowns (27 rushing, 39 passing, a punt, a kickoff, and 2 interceptions) he was a member of three straight State Championship teams where he was honored as the game’s Most Valuable Player the past two years. Morgan’s senior season was his most impressive as he seemingly never left the field, scoring nearly half of Greenwood’s touchdowns (35/83). The senior rushed for 700 yards and 18 touchdowns, caught 85 passes for 1,209 yards and 15 touchdowns, and was the Bulldog’s primary returner with a score on a punt return. He also made a big impact on the defense, intercepting 3 passes and totaling 75 tackles with a team high 18 for a loss.
It took the Hogs long enough to notice the in-state talent, however. Morgan was committed to Arkansas State and didn’t receive an offer from Arkansas until after his final high school game. Though, with the game he had, everyone should have at least given him a phone call. Morgan rushed for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns, recorded 87 receiving yards, catching a touchdown, and tallied 9 tackles with an interception. His efforts earned him the 2012 Landers Award which goes to the state’s most outstanding player, here’s a list of previous Landers Award winners, talk about good company. Morgan will enroll in the fall.
