With basketball having officially tipped-off last Friday night (and the football team now on a seven game losing skid), basketball is now front and center in Arkansas. Adding to the excitement around the basketball program right now, the early signing period for basketball opens up this Wednesday, and 2014 Arkansas point guard commit Anton Beard has announced he will sign his letter of intent Thursday to play for Mike Anderson next season. Beard, #92 on ESPN's 2014 player rankings, is a talented lefty who has teamed up with Kevaughn Allen and North Little Rock for his senior season after transferring from LR Parkview. Here's a highlight video of Beard, and a video of him going 1-on-1 with LA Clipper guard Chris Paul.
Now on to more nauseating news/info. Several times on my links posts I've linked threads to Hogville. And yes, I'm going to do it again. You should seriously read this thread, and this thread, and this thread. It covers everything from wanting a national championship immediately to what this team would be like with Sir Saban calling the shots. Yeah..
Man, how good is Arkansas' track and field/cross country teams? The correct answer is something along the lines of "really damn good." All the program has done is win 21 SEC titles in the last 23 years. No big deal... But Arkansas may not have been crowned champs of the SEC this season if had not been for SEC Runner of the Year Kemoy Campbell, who became Arkansas' ninth individual champion at the conference championships this year. It's not a major money sport, but it deserves all the recognition in the world. Truly remarkable.
I know I probably say this all the time, but I'm psyched for college basketball. And what better way to kick off, in my opinion, the best five months of the year than with an all-night tip-off marathon that starts at 6 p.m. CST and ends Tuesday night with Kentucky/Michigan State and Duke/Kansas matchups? Here's the schedule if you're interested. Oh, and I'll take Sparty and Duke in the early-season blockbuster games. Enjoy!
