Bret Bielema met with the media at an earlier-than-usual time here in the middle of the bye week. Here's what we learned.

The coaches are pretty clearly having an issue with upper-classmen who haven't been able to shake off the negative experiences from last year and are allowing them to creep over into this year. A five game losing streak wil lcertinly bring out negativity.

Not that we didn't all pretty much know that was going on, but now that the coaches have all but been blunt about it, we know it's happening.

Good news. Would love to see him back in the last two games.

Approved. Lord, do we need safeties.

I would also like to add "talent" but hopefully that's a given.

FAYETTEVILLE - University of Arkansas football head coach Bret Bielema held a press conference with the media Thursday during the team's first bye week and discussed the outlook on the end of the week.

"Yesterday was a really good practice," Coach Bielema said. "We had a lot of good on good, but then also had a jump on Auburn. We got some great developmental work at the end. Today will be much of the same. We’ll hit the road recruiting this afternoon and this evening and Friday. Then, we’ll get a good jump on Auburn again on Sunday and get ready for a big week."

Coach Bielema described the recruiting that he has been involved in during the bye week.

"This week’s been fun for me as far as just being able to lock into a little bit of recruiting, counting on some of that stuff, getting heavily involved in that," Coach Bielema said. "We’ve been blessed with some great donors that have given us air travel to make that happen. On the flip side of it, everywhere we’ve been, it’s just been extremely positive with the coaches. We can’t talk to players yet, but the reception that we’ve gotten from coaches from coast to coast has been exceptional."

Coach Bielema also spoke about facing Auburn on Nov. 2.

"Auburn is next week, obviously a big game for us," Coach Bielema said. "There’s a lot that goes into it. They’re a team that’s ranked, a team that’s done some good things. Obviously an opportunity to be here at home on what should be close to a sell-out crowd, an evening game that everyone should be jacked up for. It will be a tremendous environment. It will be a big weekend in recruiting for us, as well."
