Arkansas Builds Dugout Campfire During College World Series

2

I don't know if this is a rally campfire but the Hogs have had it going in the middle of their dugout through much of their game against Miami. They appear to be roasting marshmallows. Some are saying they also have smores and popcorn going. I'm not sure who's tending to it. Has to be freshmen. Luke Bonfield's bonfire, perhaps? We'll see if it turns out to be lucky.

Michael Qualls Tears ACL During Draft Workout

3

Oh man this is horrible. Assuming this is true, and I have no reason to doubt that it is, what a huge disappointment for Qualls. It will be interesting to see if teams will still be willing to take a chance on Qualls in the 2nd round, considering how much of his game is based on his explosiveness, which will certainly be in question until he heals.

Also, to reiterate, why can't players come back to school if they don't get drafted? Baseball players can actually get drafted out of high school and again after their junior year and still come back to play their senior season. I'll never understand that.

Benintendi Ties The Game Again With A Solo Home Run

1

After giving up a pair of runs in the top of the 5th, Benintendi crushed a solo shot to right field to tie the game again. He tied it in the 3rd with a sac fly and also saved a run with a diving catch earlier in the game. This home run is his 20th of the year. Currently 3-3 in the 6th.

Benintendi Makes Awesome Diving Catch To Save A Run

Virginia had a runner on 2nd base that would have scored if Benny didn't make this catch. 5 tool player.

Benintendi Named National Player of the Year by Baseball America

+

This is Benny's 2nd national player of the year award, following the same recognition from Collegiate Baseball. There's still more to go, highlighted by the upcoming Golden Spikes Award, for which he is one of four finalists.

Arkansas Hires Courtney Scott Deifel As New Softball Coach

+

The Razorbacks have selected Courtney Scott Deifel to turn around the softball program. She was a rookie head coach at Maryland in 2015 but oversaw a 16-game improvement this season. She was an assistant at Louisville for four season prior to that and was the catcher for a very successful run in her playing days at Cal, in which the Bears went to the Women's College World Series all four years and won a national title in 2002.

Arkansas Pitcher James Teague Out For The College World Series

1

This is certainly a blow for Arkansas' already-thin pitching staff. Teague started Game 3 of the super regionals against Missouri State and pitched four innings without giving up an earned run. Dominic Taccolini has also been benched with an injury for the last few weeks and won't be back this season. Freshman pitcher Keaton McKinney has been hampered by a hip injury but has played this postseason with limited effectiveness. Hopefully the extra time before the Monday game of the College World Series will help in his efforts to rehab.

Andrew Benintendi Drafted 7th In MLB Draft By Boston Red Sox

Congrats to Benny! Arkansas' Golden Spikes finalist is now the third-highest Razorback draft pick in baseball history, behind only Jeff King and Kevin McReynolds.

Super Regional Tickets Already Sold Out

That didn't take long. The Super Regional tickets were all sold to Season Ticket and Razorback Foundation members. There were no tickets generally available.
