Practices are closed to the media at this point so all we know is what was discussed at the post-practice press conference.
For the most part, the presser was the usual "Brandon Allen had a really nice day...I couldn't have asked for anything better...confidence off the charts..."
He even said "I thought we won the day" which is great. I, for one, am glad we did not lose today. Or tie.
No injuries. That's good. #1-0 there.
Sam Irwin-Hill is on campus. Melvinson Hartfield is expected to be on campus Tuesday or Wednesday.
Oh, and Mekale McKay is not with the team and is considering transferring. Bielema said McKay was looking for an offense that was closer to the offense run by Bobby Petrino.
If McKay leaves, there's no way around admitting that this would be a blow to the Razorback receiving corps. In terms of yardage, McKay was the top returning receiver from last year even though he wasn't one of the three receivers listed as a starter on the post-spring depth chart. Additionally, he's just a sophomore, while the three listed ahead of him are all seniors. So even if McKay wasn't going to be a starter this season, he'd theoretically be in line to become one of the top, if not the top, receiver for Arkansas as a junior and senior.
While nobody expects Bielema's Razorbacks to throw the ball nearly as much as the team did under Petrino, it's not as if the ball will be completely grounded. Losing arguably the top underclassman receiver on the roster hurts. If it happens. McKay has not been granted a release yet, so we'll continue to follow this story.
And how come no one mentioned Bielema's facial hair? Is he growing a full beard? Is he taking me up on my suggestion from last week?
We need to get Bielema to grow a beard and wear brown leather. He could pull it off. #drunkhistory— Doc Harper (@doc_harper) July 31, 2013
This is important stuff! Ask the real questions, people!
