Arkansas Football Countdown Day 43: John Henson

Beth Hall-USA TODAY Sports

This Razorback legacy has a connection to a strong history of NFL kickers.

John Henson is a redshirt junior who is a second generation Razorback. His father attended school on The Hill back in the day and obviously taught his son good decision making skills.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound kicker, not to be confused with the former All-ACC North Carolina Tar Heel, played against South Carolina and LSU in 2012, scoring seven points in the season's last game.

Henson played his high school ball in Southlake, at the Texas powerhouse, Carroll High School.

You may know of some of the former college quarterbacks who call this school their alma mater such as Greg McElroy (Alabama) and Chase Daniel (Missouri).

However, it has also produced NFL kickers, too. Current New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley and Kris Brown kicked the pigskin around for the Dragons in high school just as Henson did.

Hartley is a Super Bowl champion who at one point in his career held the NFL record for most consecutive made field goals to start a career (16). Brown ended his career with the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 and was named an All-Pro selection in 2007.

Henson is second on the depth chart as it stands after spring, but having him as a reliable backup could become useful if injury strikes the special teams unit.
