Deatrich Wise, Jr is part of a trio of freshmen on the Razorback defensive line, along with Darius Philon and JaMichael Winston, that are expected to be the base of Arkansas' defense for the next few years.
All are currently listed as backups this season, and are a big part of the reason defensive line is considered the deepest position on the team. All three are expected to significantly contribute this year.
Wise actually played in two games last season (Jacksonville State and Alabama) and recorded two tackles, but was granted a medical redshirt after the season ended so he still has four years of eligibility remaining.
The 6'6" defensive end from Carrollton, Texas is listed at 265 pounds, up from the 240 pounds on his ArkansasRazorbacks.com bio.
Wise was also offered SEC scholarships from Texas A&M (technically pre-SEC) and Vanderbilt. He was also offered by Arizona, Purdue, and Wake Forrest.
